I thought this was worth mentioning. There's a new animated movie out in May called Battle for Terra:

trailer: http://www.battleforterra.com

I'm so excited to hear there's a major hollywood movie coming out in May with a green conscious message. Plus it'll be animated and in 3D, fun for kids...

The story is about how humans deplete Earth's natural resources and set out to find another planet to inhabit. They find Terra, inhabited already by a lovely alien race that honors nature and celebrates life in a peaceful and harmonious way. Of course, humans try to take it over via war...so I wonder how it all ends.

Looks as though it has great animation, and with some major stars in it I really think it could be sending a positive message to lots of people. Kudos for hollywood! (LionsGate) I hope this starts a new trend of green conscious movies from the big guys!

Whoa! That looks sweet! Thanks for posting that. I usually do my best to keep on top of what movies are coming out, but I somehow missed that one.

Looks to have a really important environmental awareness message at the heart of it. Hope it "clicks" for those going to see it. And it's a great lesson to teach kids. Kudos to Lionsgate for taking this on. Hope it turns out to be a good movie...

I love that there are so many green themes being marketed to our children. If they are going to market, let it be smart! ;)

We just saw the trailer for Battle for Terra when we were watching Monsters vs. Aliens. It looks great. The film won the "Crystal Heart Vision" award for 'excellence in film' making at the Heartland Film festival which honors films that empower the human journey and express hope, respect and positive values of life.

Because of this, I'm thinking there is way more to it than just awesome animation and an all-star cast. *fingers crossed*

I really need to get to the Heartland Film Festival next year. Takes place right here in Indy...still have never been to it.

Quick look-up on Heartland's site; looks like Battle for Terra got a Truly Moving Picture award, as well as a Crystal Heart.

Checked on IMDb too. It got the Silver Gryphon award for "First Feature Competition" at the 2008 Giffoni Film Festival and the Grand Prize for "Best Animated Feature" at the 2008 Ottawa International Film Festival.

Looking forward to this one; it should be good. Buzz seems to give it a much more serious tone than your usual Disney/Dreamworks-family-friendly-fluff-comedy animation, which could very well prove to be the right approach. And hopefully an eye-opener for some.

Aren't there already tons of movies out there with an underlying green message? Ferngully, Avatar to name a couple (well I guess those are the same movie)
