Instead of attempting to clean up polluting fossil fuels, there are concrete actions that can be adopted in United States to shift away from fossil fuels and advance alternative renewable energy sources. These specific measures will advance the use of alternative renewable fuels to move our society toward achieving sustainable CO2 levels.
For a complete discussion of global warming and biodiversity, you can review http://www.onebiosphere.com
Initially, we must make substantial, strategic investments allowing our population to work to replace 19th-century energy technologies that depend on dangerous global-warming carbon-based fuels with modern 21st-century technologies that use fuels that are essentially free and carbon-free: the sun, the wind and the natural heat of the earth.

Do you have specific examples of these "concrete actions" you're referring to?

I agree that a lot needs to be done, and investing money in the right technologies and scientific fields is great start. But just to play devil's advocate: Will throwing money at the problem really fix it? I think a large part of the problem is the lack of funding, technological advancement, infrastructure...whatever....."material things" basically. And in theory, all that can be overcome. But equally important (or maybe moreso), is the fact that the mindset of people need to change, so that they are aware of the environment around them, the impact they may be having on that environment, and what they can do about it. How do we do that? How do we break people of their bad habits? Those are some "concrete actions" I'd really like to see.

Now maybe the two (material vs. human) are intertwined and one will take care of the other naturally:
1. Invest in new energy sources and technologies.
2. Once ready, give it to a few groups of people.
3. Those without it will begin to see and hear about all the benefits (hopefully) and desire to have those benefits for themselves.
4. Gradually, demand will rise and the cost of the technology itself will then fall...giving rise to more demand.

Just an example. And granted it relies on a domino effect of human greed and jealousy to work....but really, don't most new ideas take off that way?
Oh, nice site BTW. Some good write-ups on there.
