What are some green technologies being used recently? I want to buff up on some of the more innovative ways to go green when using my electronics.
Thanks

This a somewhat open-ended question, as there are countless technologies out there. Some are currently making their way to market now, while others are still in the research and experimentation phase. The potential implications and impacts of each are debatable, but the possibilities are endless.

Here is a partial list of some emerging green tech:

Energy

Solar
Wind
Nuclear fusion
Biofuels
Hydrogen
Nanowire batteries
Ultracapacitors
Wireless energy transfer

Transportation

Electric cars
Air cars
Hydrogen cars
Personal rapid transit

Other

LED lighting (for general illumination, not just accent lighting)
OLED displays
Synthetic biology
Nanomaterials

...and many more.

There are plenty of ideas and theories going around the fields of Information Technology and Materials Sciences that will ultimately have a large impact on our electronic devices in the future.

But going green right now using your current electronics (assuming you're not replacing them with newer models that may use less energy) will be more about reducing energy use during idle (aka "stand-by") times, and finding ways to offset the energy that you are using with a greener alternative. One of the easiest options currently available to offset your energy use is to purchase renewable energy from your power company, usually as a percentage, or to create your own green energy directly, such as with solar cells.

There's also an interesting quick little article on Yahoo Green about some of the more interesting and alternative renewable energy technologies that are being looked at.

Stranger than fiction - energies of the future (http://green.yahoo.com/blog/ecomii_healthy_living/28/stranger-than-fiction-energies-of-the-future.html)

Space power...awesome. Footstep power...um, a little weird. But imagine a walkable city like New York with energy producing sidewalks! One thing's for sure, it's going to get very interesting over the next couple years as inventors and entrepreneurs begin to shape the future of our world.

I find it amusing when I see an ad on TV for new TV technology, after all the picture you see is limited by the technology on the TV set youre watching it on. If the picture in the TV ad looks fantastic then theres no reason to change your TV is there?

HA! That's funny. :) And a good (albeit somewhat random) point.

I dont blame you, that thing is hilarious. Hey Another use for this technology.

Well i think that the green technology is gret, but it will cost a lot of money right??

Germany once again is ahead of the curve showing off a new system to save money on street lights in rural areas. It's called "dial-a-light." Basically at night they turn the streetlights off, and if your walking by and want them turned on you simply dial a number, enter the code for the area, and they all turn on for 15 minutes. A great idea I think as most the time the lights are on all night without a soul in sight.

I hate it when I rent a blu-ray and I have to sit through a 3 minute video about why blu-ray is better....I get it!...I got it!

I found a good youtube channel comprised just of green energy videos and there is a whole play list dedicated to new emerging technology. Check it out there are a few really good ones.

I see a lo of video experiments and testimonies about the so called self-powered or magnetic generator but I do not get to see any green stores selling already assembled sets. Anyone who knows whre I can find one?

Has anyone heard of piezoelectricity? I just learned about this cool new way to generate electricity, pretty much anywhere, on sidewalks, roads, airports, dance clubs, anywhere there is movement by people or machines.

Here is a video explaining it all.

There are other off the shelf products that can help reduce energy cost from 10% to 30% and more for commercial and residential heat, air conditioning and refrigeration applications.

As I am a new member I cannot insert a url to reference but if you send me a PM I will gladly provide you the information

Thanks

You have posted very nice information regrding green technologies. All of new green technologies the Solar technology is very much helpful to save the electric cost. I will aspect same information in future also.
