One of the most commonly used technology for tapping sun’s heat are the solar panels. Also known as the Photovoltaic cells, the device is used to convert sunlight into electricity. The solar energy can be produced cleanly at a place where it is consumed. The solar panel investments (http://www.worldenergyresearch.com/Services.aspx) have grown over the years, owing to the great qualities of this energy source.
The Solar panels or photovoltaic cells make use of renewable energy from the sun. The solar cells work by changing sunlight into electricity. The solar or PV cells are made up of silicon atoms that transfer the energy and release electrons from the orbit around the nucleus and generate electricity. The electricity generated from PV cells is clean and environmentally sound.
Homes that are completely solar powered homes are always in demand. The solar cells installed in the house enhance its value and take advantage of passive solar heating and day lighting techniques. The house can be built in such a way that it absorbs maximum heat. This can be done by planning the design carefully. The materials used in the floors and walls of the home should be chosen in such a way that it distributes heat evenly throughout the home.

Thank you McLaughlin,
Great Post!
On the first sentence:
One of the most commonly used technology for tapping sun’s heat are the solar panels.
... you are refering to the sun's heat, isn't it routher the Light waves such as in the infrared spectrum that are being transformed to electricity?

Why dont people have solar power technology in their homes. I would have thought by now the government will be giving grants out.
Is solar power not a good investment?

Solar Power at Home becomes a more viable alternative as fossil fuel prices rise and environmental issues persist. Getting solar power installed for your residential electricity needs is easier and cheaper than you might think The following is a simple guide to installing solar power for homes. Before you take any other action, do your due diligence in seeking out any state.

It is a great news that Portugal is using Solar Power Plant for making electricity for homes. The use of solar power will reduce the dependence on oil which contributes to the pollution in the world by the emission of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases. Such types of solar plant should be developed elsewhere in the world to control the pollution.

Solar panels are most used only for heating waters. There are lot peoples that don't use Solar panels for energy supply, cause they think that would cost a lot. How do you think?

It offers solar power products including solar panels, inverters and balance of system which convert sunlight into utility quality electricity, and solar thermal systems which utilizes the sun’s radiation to heat water for homes and commercial applications.

How exactly does a solar panel work? It's kinda like photosynthisis in plants right? except into a generator?

The source of solar energy is "SUN". We can conserve this energy and can use it to charge solar batteries, we can use this light in stead of using electric energy. Solar power is also used to prepare the food using the solar cooker. Also it money saver and easy to use. Moreover plants use the solar energy to make food. We can use in the form of light energy. There are a variety of products on the market that uses solar thermal energy. The solar heat can also be used to produce electricity on a large utility-scale by converting the solar energy into mechanical energy.

You can build your own panels and turbines i left a link to the site with the videos and books. These are really good people and the info is priceless. you could power your own home! Great info. Many Thanks Go Green Now so we can have a planet later.

I was trying to look online for solar panels for my home to take some of the strain off of using oil and electricity but I find it very hard to understand exactly how they are used.Like one that I looked up is 100 watts is that like a light bulb watt? How many things can that power?

Nice informaiton regarding solar. Lets all expect to become solar cheaply available.

Yes a 100 watt solar panel produces enough electricity to power one 100 watt light bulb. But newer types of light bulb like CFL and LED bulbs use only 2 to 10 watts.
You would need a battery as well as a solar panel though, if you want to have light at night.

solar energy is a really good investment. pretty fast payback as well.

The only problem that I have found with solar stuff is that not very many people are certified for installation which is driving costs through the roof. Not a bad investment though to get in at the top of a booming market.

Your home's windows, walls, and floors can be designed to collect, store & spread solar power in the form of heat in the winter & decline solar heat in the summer. This is called passive solar design or climatic design.
