I have recently seen signs for curbside recycling in my neighborhood and was thinking about using their services. Are they expensive to use and what materials do they take.

Our curbside recycling is only $18/quarter. Pretty cheap I think. They take the following materials:
Aluminum
Cardboard (flat, non-corrugated only)
Glass
Plastic #1
Plastic #2

I don't know where you live, but I live in a suburb of Spokane, WA. Spokane has free curbside recycling, but unfortunately, we don not have that option. We have to drive our recyclables to the transfer station about 20 miles away. Every city has different rules of what they except & if they will offer a program at all.
I recently read an article about the food waste composting program that is beginning in Portland, OR. The program is in about 70 cities across the US and began in San Francisco, CA. I know they do this in Seattle & I believe their might be a program in Spokane as well. Portland hopes to be able to eliminate 30% of their landfill waste by allowing residents to put their food compost into the yard waste bins.

We have a new nwgreenlife website if anyone is from the great NW and would like to check out out local forum about green living.

It probably varies from city to city. Best to contact your particular area and find out what their prices and materials are.
